چکیده

Background: Compomers remain the material of choice for restoration of primary teeth as they combine the best of GIC and composites. However, as it is a resinous material, attention is focused on polymerization shrinkage causing gaps at restoration cavity interface. Gaps represent decreased efficacy of adaptation. Aim: To evaluate the marginal adaptation of compomers (Dyract, Compoglass, and F-2000) in class I and V cavities in primary molars. Materials and methods: Sixty noncarious primary molars were divided for three compomers (20), which were subdivided to two groups. Standard class I and V cavities (10 each) were prepared and restored. The cavity interface was examined and observations analyzed. The cavities were etched prior to restoration and margins were exposed. The cavosurface margins were inspected under stereomicroscope for surface gaps. Then buccolingually sectioned, they were examined for marginal gaps. Two specimens each were selected for SEM. Chi-square test was used to determine statistical significance (p < 0.05). Results: All compomers showed good adaptation at cavosurface, with class I better than V. Compoglass and Dyract were better adapted to cavity walls than F-2000. SEM revealed close interlaced adaptation of filling material to etched cavity. Conclusion: This study has shown that compomers provide good adaptation at cavity margins with compules (Compoglass and Dyract) being a better mode of dispensing than syringe tubes (F-2000). SEM showed gaps and pooling of adhesive and air in few samples.

Evaluation of Gingival Microleakage of Colored Compomers in Primary Teeth: an in vitro Study

Introduction: Microleakage is a major factor affecting the longevity of adhesive restorations. Colored compomer is a new restorative material that was specifically designed for the restoration of primary molars in different colors, but their microleakage is unknown. This study was carried out to compare the microleakage of a colored compomer (Twinky star) and a conventional compomer (F2000) ...

A Comparative Investigation of Marginal Adaptation and Surface Defects of MTA and Root MTA as Two Root End Filling Materials

Introduction: This study was carried out to compare two retrograde filling materials entitled mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and Root MTA (RMTA) in regard to their marginal adaptation and surface defects. Method: In this study twenty extracted human teeth were used. In all teeth after cleaning and shaping, the root canals were obturated by gutta-percha and root canal sealer. After that in eac...

Comparative evaluation of shear bond strength of three flowable compomers on enamel of primary teeth: An in-vitro study

BACKGROUND The aim of the present study was to determine Shear bond strength (SBS) of different flowable compomers on the enamel surface of primary teeth. The null hypothesis to be tested was that none of the flowable compomer would differ significantly from the other two with respect to SBS. As a result, the tested materials that have the easiest application on child patient is preferred. MA...

Effect of Thermocycling on Microleakage of New Adhesive Systems on Primary Teeth: An In-Vitro Study

Introduction: This study investigated the sealing ability of three different adhesives in primary bovine teeth. Methods: Facial and lingual class V cavities were prepared half in enamel and half in cementum, in 48 bovine primary mandibular incisors and randomly divided into three groups and each group divided to two subgroups. The tested adhesives were XPBond (XP), ClearfilS3 Bond (S3), and Xen...

Effect of Two Disinfecting Agents on the Microleakage of Resin-Based Composite Restorations in Primary Teeth

Introduction: Disinfection of the cavity preparation after caries excavation can lead to the elimination of bacterial remnants that can be responsible for recurrent caries, postoperative sensitivity, and failure of the restoration. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of two disinfectants on microleakage of composite restorations in primary teeth. Metho...
